Library 2018

1. Is there a Library Orientation?

Yes. This is made up of LibQuest (onsite) and LIB001 (online). 

 

2. Why do I need to complete LIB001: Library Research Skills 2018-19?

Learning how to use the library’s resources and services will help you achieve academic success while at SMU and give you a head-start in your studies. At SMU you are required to become an independent learner and apply critical thinking skills.

 

All students except Law students* must complete the following course: LIB001:  Library Research Skills 2018-19 [Login with your SMU ID and password only]. 

There is 1 Learning Activity (LA) to be completed:

  • LA1: Finding Your Course Readings

* The Library Orientation for Law students (LLB + JD) is a required component of the LAW104 Legal System, Legal Method and Analysis course.  Law students will access the Library training content via LIBLAW (LAW104) Legal System, Legal Method and Analysis on eLearn (the online learning management system). Law students will be contacted separately regarding the Library course. 

3. Where can I learn more about the Library Orientation Programmes?

In addition to information published on the library’s website. Look out for emails from the library too!

4. Is the LIB001: Library Research Skills 2018-19 compulsory?

Yes, please complete the module by Friday 31 August 2018. The eLearn (online learning management system) tracks learners completion.

 

5.How do I access the learning activities in the eLearn system?

You will need to login with your SMU ID and password only.

 

6. I am a Law Student; do I need to complete the Online Library Orientation Programme

The Library Orientation for Law students is built into the LAW104 Legal System, Legal Method and Analysis course. All Law students must complete it. It is a course requirement. Law students will be contacted separately regarding the Library course.

 

7.What is LibQuest (onsite)?

LibQuest is a problem-based learning activity where you will participate through discovery how to use the physical and digital library.

 

8. When is the LibQuest?

The LibQuest dates are 11 & 12, 19 & 20 July, and 2 & 3 August 2018. These will be run in conjunction with the Freshmen Orientation (FO) programmes run by the SMU Students’ Association (SMUSA). The FO programme team will advise you further on timings.

9. I have some questions about the LibQuest, who do I contact?

10. Is LibQuest Compulsory?

Yes.

11. I have a clash with other matriculation activities e.g. Academic Briefing. What do I do?

It is important you choose a session/slot as early as possible when you are available. LibQuest sessions may coincide other events that require you to be on campus to complete other activities.
