Internship Programme

10 May 2023

Dear Freshmen,

Welcome to the SMU family and greetings from the Dato’ Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC)! DKHMCC’s career coaches are here to guide and support you with your career planning as you embark on your degree programmes at SMU. Please know that each of you has a career coach assigned at DKHMCC to help with your preparation for internships and graduate recruitment. Your coach will reach out to you soon with an introduction.

SMU CORE CURRICULUM: INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

Administered by the Dato’ Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC), an internship of 10 weeks is mandatory for all SMU undergraduates and a degree requirement. It carries 1 Credit Unit (CU) for all undergraduate degree programmes except the Bachelor of Laws. For students in the Bachelor of Laws programme, internships are a non-credit bearing but compulsory graduation requirement.

The pre-requisite for any internship to be recognised towards this requirement is the completion of the Foundational Finishing Touch (FT) programme (comprising of Reflective Practice Unit or RPU, 5 Internships Readiness Modules or IRMs, e-internship briefing and quiz) and is mandatory for all SMU undergraduates. While RPU will equip you with skills for deeper and more meaningful reflection, the IRMs aim to provide knowledge, practice, and some preparation for internships and job applications.

Upon completion of the above Foundational FT, undergraduates will have the option to progress to optional advanced Modular FT consisting of ‘Ask the Expert’ and Career Readiness Workshops or CRWs which reinforce the learning from the Foundational FT and further support for your job readiness.

Please login to SMU’s eLearn portal at https://elearn.smu.edu.sg/ from 5 June 2023 onwards to complete the RPU, IRMs, and e-internship briefing and quiz. All students are encouraged to complete these online units within their first year at University so they can be ready for any early internship opportunities that may come their way to explore. If you have problems accessing eLearn, please email to elearn@smu.edu.sg for assistance.

For a quick overview of the internship procedure, please visit https://oasis.smu.edu.sg/Pages/DKHMCC/Getting-Started.aspx.

If you have any other enquiries, please email to placement@smu.edu.sg.

Wish you all a wonderful and fruitful learning journey ahead at SMU!

Warm regards,
