Dear Freshmen,
Welcome to the vibrant SMU family!
As you embark on this four year exciting journey of discovery and growth, the Dato’ Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC) is here to support your career aspirations. Our dedicated team offers a suite of services designed to enhance your employability and prepare you for the dynamic world of work. From a dedicated career coach assigned to you to skill-building workshops, internship opportunities, and networking events with industry leaders, we provide the resources to help you navigate your career path with confidence.
To ensure you gain a head start in career preparation, all SMU undergraduates will undergo a 10 weeks internship programme as part of the degree requirement. It carries 1 Course Unit (CU) for all undergraduate degree programmes except for the Bachelor of Laws. For students in the Bachelor of Laws programme, internships are a non-credit bearing but compulsory graduation requirement. DKHMCC administers this important degree requirement and manages the recruitment activities to support you in completing this milestone in your degree programme.
The internship requirement comes with pre-requisites of modules to be completed and submissions to be made to ensure you feel ready to take on the experience and make the most of it. I would encourage you to start early on these preparatory online modules to be prepared for any opportunities that come your way. It is never too early to explore career options that will present themselves to you at SMU!
DKHMCC also offers several opportunities for you to network with employers through recruitment talks, career fairs and employability training workshops throughout the year. Please attend those of interest to you to find out more about different industries, the roles they recruit for and the critical skills they seek in their interns and full-time hires.
Should you have any enquiries related to internships or career planning matters, please email DKHMCC at placement@smu.edu.sg and you will be connected to your career coach.
We welcome you to explore the services DKHMCC has to offer and take advantage of them to help you navigate your career journey successfully.
We wish you all a wonderful and fruitful learning journey ahead at SMU!
Thank you.
